Geography

Yemen is a mountainous country, with the highest point being Mount Jabal an-Nabi Shu'ayb, which has an elevation of 3,760 meters (12,336 feet). The country is divided into two main regions: the northern highlands and the southern lowlands. The northern highlands are home to the country's capital, Sana'a, as well as other major cities such as Ta'izz and Hodeidah. After independence, Yemen was ruled by a series of Imams. In 1962, a revolution led to the overthrow of the Imams and the establishment of the Yemen Arab Republic. The Yemen Arab Republic was then merged with South Yemen in 1990 to form the Republic of Yemen.

Yemen has faced a number of challenges since its independence, including civil wars, economic instability, and terrorism. The country is currently facing a humanitarian crisis, with millions of people facing food insecurity and malnutrition.

Culture

Yemen has a rich and diverse culture. The country's official language is Arabic, but many other languages are also spoken, including English, French, and Russian. The majority of the population is Muslim, with a small minority of Christians and Jews.
