As they creaked open the door to the attic, a musty smell filled the air. The only light came from the moon shining through the small window. Max and Mia could see cobwebs everywhere, and the floor was covered in dust.
"This place is creepy," said Mia. "I don't want to be here."
"Don't be silly," said Max. "It's just an attic. There's nothing to be afraid of."
Max and Mia continued to explore the attic, and soon they came to a large trunk in the corner. The trunk was covered in a thick layer of dust, and it looked like it hadn't been opened in years.
"I wonder what's inside," said Max.
"Let's open it and find out," said Mia.
Max and Mia lifted the lid of the trunk, and inside they found a pile of old clothes, books, and toys. They also found a small wooden box, which was locked.
"I wonder what's in the box," said Mia.
"Let's find a key and open it," said Max.
Max and Mia searched the attic for a key, but they couldn't find one. They were about to give up when they saw a small key hanging on the wall.
"That must be the key to the box," said Max.
Max took the key and unlocked the box. Inside the box, they found a small, leather-bound book. The book was covered in strange symbols, and it looked like it was very old.
"I wonder what's in the book," said Mia.
"Let's open it and find out," said Max.
Max and Mia opened the book, and inside they found a story about a group of kids who went on a Halloween adventure. The kids in the story were just like Max and Mia, and they had a lot of fun exploring the haunted house in their neighborhood.
Max and Mia read the story together, and they loved it. They laughed and they gasped, and they couldn't wait to see what happened next.
When they finished the story, Max and Mia closed the book and put it back in the box. They then locked the box and put it back in the trunk.
"That was a great story," said Mia. "I'm glad we found the book."
"Me too," said Max. "It was a lot of fun."
Max and Mia left the attic and went back downstairs. They were both excited to tell their friends about the book they had found. They knew that their friends would love the story just as much as they did.
